As human activity continues to encroach on wildlife habitat, finding safe release locations for our animals becomes more and more difficult.

If you own property and would like to offer it for releasing animals that have completed rehab, please fill out the form below. PSSWF will never release animals on your property without your permission first.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN A RELEASE SITE:

LOCATION: We serve all of Western Colorado, so we are happy to have sites from the continental divide to the Northwestern to Southwestern corners of the state.

SPACE AWAY FROM HUMANS: the amount of space needed varies by species. For smaller animals, properties of 5-10 acres are often perfect, but hundreds of acres are potentially needed for medium to large species. What surrounds your property is also important - we try to avoid areas right next to busy roads, developments, etc. If your property borders public lands or large agricultural areas, it could be just what we’re looking for!

SHELTER: Shelter requirements vary by species as well. Examples of natural shelter include cliffs, trees, caves, rocks piles, downed timber, bushes and shrubs, etc.

FOOD: Again, food needed varies by type of animal. If your property is overrun with rodents, it could be a great potential release site for small predators and raptor birds. If it has large areas of natural grasses and shrubs, it could be perfect for rabbits, some songbirds, deer, etc.

WATER: Permanent water sources are important (ditches, streams, ponds, etc.), especially for animals that are just learning their new habitat. Additionally, large bodies of water are crucial for releasing waterfowl and other similar birds. For larger birds, water sources don’t necessarily have to be found on your property, as long as they are nearby.

If you think your property may HAVE most or all of the above qualities, please let us know! We would love to partner with you to find good habitat for our rehabbed animals! You may email ADDITIONAL photos of your property to psswildlifefoundation@gmail.com. Thank you!
